Young ladies who wore their hair and their skirts short in the 1920s – an defied social conventions in other ways – were called "flappers."
Perfectly understandable, when convention wanted girls to stay at home and sit patiently until suitors came to call. Of course the centerpiece of this costume is the flapper dress made of black crushed velvet. The very short dress has a high back and a low, square neckline defined by an insert of gray satin covered by a layer of black & silver lace with a floral pattern. A line of alternating silver and black sequins accents the insert and the straps, and continues on to sleeves that are dripping with sassy black fringe. Two additional rows of fringe beneath the gleaming net hip belt with a rhinestone buckle add motion to the outfit. A long string of pearly beads lightens up the look, and the elastic head band made of rows of black sequins with an oval red rhinestone at the center and a black plume adds the final touch to our Flapper Girl costume. Extravagant and chic!
