Rococo revival in the 1820s – after Napoleon's downfall, people wanted grace and playfulness in their lives again! What better way to get it than with a mistress? A beauty in fiery red velvet with accents of shimmering white damask and gold. The top of this off-the-shoulder dress with a back zipper is made of white floral damask edged with golden trim. The sweetheart neckline is elasticized at the shoulders and back and a playful velvet bow decorates the front. The sleeves are gathered at the elbows – where more velvet bows are placed – and end in two tiers of graceful ruffles. The full, floor-length red velvet overskirt is gathered into the elasticized waistband and is gracefully draped at the sides by two golden loops. Trimmed with two rows of gold braid on either side, the front slit opens to show a beige satin underskirt with a stunning front panel in the same white damask as the top. Gold braid creates a scallop edge where the bottom stripe of golden damask begins – just above the hoop inserted for fullness. The golden tassels at the waistline swing when you move. A ruffled choker in golden satin and a white ringlet wig complete this costume. All of the countesses, baronesses and princesses in the room will pale in comparison to this mistress!
