We always thought that Canadian police are called "Mounties" because there are so many mountains in Canada. But it turns out to be the affectionate short form of "Royal Canadian Mounted Police" – they ride horses. The distinctive Mountie uniform is legendary. The bright red jacket has a black stand up collar and epaulets that are decorated with gold braid. It is long so you look good in it even if you're not sitting on a horse. The row of closely placed buttons on the front starts at the collar and goes to the hips. Buffet robbers beware: our Mountie always gets his man!
