Stupid August is the clown with the red nose, but nobody goes around telling this Augustus that he's stupid. The first Roman emperor not only put the Pax back into the Roman Empire; he also provided for the prosperity of the entire population. To do that, he relied in part on the dress code: a white tunic with a golden cuirass over it to signify his role as military commander-in-chief. The attached toga is violet trimmed with golden Jacquard fabric and lined in gold. The golden laurel wreath is another sign of his exalted rank.
