Only the best is good enough for kings as royal as Henry VIII – and that goes double for their breeches. Toward the end of the reign of Henry VIII, fashion became less colorful and was influenced by the dark, sombre clothing worn at the Spanish court. These 1-piece, black paned breeches are rich with soft velveteen trimmed with elegant damask over a full inner layer of shiny twill and then lined again for that plump, padded look. They have an elasticized, damask waistband and the very wide, velveteen guardes at the bottom fasten with a row of shiny black buttons. The four-button fly closure beats a zipper for historical accuracy and is extremely practical as well: the days of fumbling around with codpieces are over. Royal fun!
