Pleated hakamas are traditionally worn over kimonos in Japan. Initially, they were one of the components of Japanese ceremonial, court, and official clothing. Later, samurai would wear them to protect their legs while riding through the undergrowth. Our Hakama follows the distinctive style of this traditional garb and even has the obligatory hip board (koshi-ita) which supports your back and aids in binding the hakama around your hips.
