Broad-brimmed hats with high crowns have been worn by riders on horseback since at least the 13th century. Ideally, they had tall crowns for insulation, hat bands to tighten them, and wide brims for shade. Texas cowboys in the 19th century started out wearing hats with opened crowns and flat brims, but wind and wear added creases and curled the brims over time. The used look soon became the fashion. Our Texan Hat made of 100 percent wool felt comes in the traditional shades of beige and brown, and has a slightly curled brim and a creased crown. The hat band is a leather strap with a metal buckle so you can tighten the hat to fit your head. With a hat like this, everyone will know you are a fan of the Great West.
